'Backlash will occur' if employees are made to pay for economic crisis

Ylr-news-19226025

Employees will not tolerate it if they are made to pay for the economic crisis, it has been claimed.

According to Carolyn Jones, director at the Institute of Employment Rights, pay freezes and wage cuts are unlikely to reduce the number of redundancies seen across the country.

She added: "I think there will be an industrial backlash as we've seen in recent disputes if employers continue to try and make the workers pay for a crisis they didn't create."

Ms Jones went on to state: "Let the bosses pay out of their massive salaries and their bonuses."

She said that such executives should cash in some of the shares they took during more prosperous times to raise money for their firms.

The expert made her comments in the wake of the announcement by British Airways this month that it is offering staff a number of options to sign up for unpaid work or unpaid leave in order to aid the finances of the company.
