'Fewer speeding tickets' issued in Sussex

Ylr-news-19277153

The number of speeding tickets issued in Sussex has fallen in recent times, the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) has said.

According to a report in Eastbourne Today, statistics from the organisation suggest that fewer people have received such tickets over the past three years.

Commenting on the issue, superintendent Steve Barry of Sussex Police's Roads Policing Unit said that the fall is in line with a national decrease.

He stated: "It is heartening to see fewer motorists activating the speed cameras - and this follows a national trend for increased compliance with speed limits."

However, local police said they would not be easing up on catching road users who choose to ignore speed limits and thereby endanger themselves and others.

Launched in April 2007, the SSRP is funded by government grants which a number of organisations bid for, including East and West Sussex county councils.

It aims to reduce the number of people who are killed or seriously injured by drivers on the roads in Sussex.
