'More people' renegotiating divorce settlements

Ylr-news-19353163

There has been a rise in the number of divorcees attempting to change the terms of their divorce settlements, it has been claimed.

According to Unbiased.co.uk, over a third (36 per cent) of solicitors have been asked to look into such renegotiations over recent months as the recession continues to affect people's finances.

The website claimed that many divorcees who had already submitted the terms of financial agreements now wish to change them in order to ensure that they are not paying too much.

It also found that 12 per cent of solicitors questioned believed clients stand a good chance of succeeding.

Chief executive of the organisation David Elms commented: "Many going through a divorce aren't aware that financial settlements may be renegotiated if the value of the items change, therefore it is vital to seek professional advice to ensure you and your assets are protected."

Recently, legal expert Amandeep Gill told the Guardian that the popularity of prenuptial agreements is rising among couples in the UK.
