'Rise' in insurance claims made for cars stolen from driveways
Posted by Mark Cunningham
The number of people making insurance claims for vehicles which have been stolen following domestic burglary has increased.
This is according to AA Insurance, which suggested that there was a rise of 19 per cent in such activity in 2008-09 compared with the previous 12-month period - despite a 14 per cent decline in car thefts overall.
In total, around £194 million worth of vehicles are stolen from driveways each year, the cover provider noted.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "It's almost impossible to steal a modern car without first obtaining the keys."
He added that keys are the "weakest link" in the security chain and people should treat them in the same way they do cash in order to reduce the chances that they will have to make an insurance claim due to their cars having been taken.
Recently, moneysupermarket.com suggested that people who want to pay for home cover on a monthly basis should shop around to find a good deal.
