It has been revealed that more than 30 million adults in Britain are currently without a will, in spite of the fact that 92 per cent know how they want their assets divided when they die.

According to information portal Unbiased.co.uk - which has just launched its annual Write a Will Week today (October 25th) - 87 per cent of people under the age of 35 do not have such a document in place.

What's possibly more concerning is that 36 per cent of people over 55 years old are in a similar situation, facts that prompted chief executive of the website Karen Barrett to describe the nation as experiencing "wills apathy", with children, partners and spouses left unprotected should the worst happen.

"Many people are simply unaware that should they die without a will, their assets are distributed according to the rules of intestacy," she said.

Those interested in finding out more can listen to podcasts on the subject via the body's website.

This is even more surprising given online systems for preparing wills such as that offered by yourlegalrights.co.uk, which gives people the option to complete wills on the internet and is a much more cost-effective option for those requiring less complex wills.ADNFCR-2353-ID-800154550-ADNFCR
