Accident at work causes man serious injuries

A man has sustained serious injuries during an accident at work which saw him get trapped between a loading platform and a lorry.

Nathan Ford suffered a fractured collarbone and forearm during the incident in April of this year as he worked at a dept owned by his employer Business Forms Express in Bristol.

An investigation into the incident conducted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that a flap connected to a dock leveller which caused the accident had been broken for the last ten years.

Mr Ford had to hold the flap up manually because the mechanism was faulty, which then resulted in him being stuck between a reversing HGV and the front of the dock leveller.

Dominic Goacher, inspector for the HSE, commented: "It is astonishing that this company allowed its workers to use equipment which had been broken for so long."

Meanwhile, the HSE also investigated a case recently which saw a man break his back after falling through a skylight at work.
