Accident at work leaves man with severe leg injuries
Posted by Cheryl Bennett
An accident at work which left a worker with a severe leg injury was caused by the negligence of his employers, it has been revealed.
According to the findings of an investigation conducted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Grzegorz Krzaczek, who is originally from Poland, had his limb trapped in a machine at the Windymains Timber sawmilling company in Scotland.
Consequently, Mr Krzaczek sustained three fractures in his left leg as well as significant nerve damage after being stuck in situ for around an hour and a half before he was freed by the fire service.
The HSE concluded that the company had failed to assess the risks involved in operating this equipment, which led to the worker's injuries.
David Stephen - inspector for the HSE, which acts as the independent watchdog on workplace safety across all sectors - commented that the incident could have "very easily led to the death of Mr Krzaczek" and had been "entirely preventable".
