Accidents and injury sees mother call for blind ban
Posted by Emily Jones
An accident in the home has resulted in a mother calling for a blanket ban on blinds with looped cords to be introduced in the UK - as it has been in Canada, the US and Australia - after her 17-month-old daughter died when she became entangled in the string.
Joy Edwards and husband Andrew were alerted to the incident by their seven-year-old son Christian who found his sister strangled by the cord.
Ms Edwards advised other parents to ensure these curtain options are tied up all the time and remain vigilant of their children's activities.
"It has been devastating. I keep going over the what ifs. What if I'd got up earlier? What if we'd not had blinds with cords?" she remarked.
This comes after the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents found that incidents at home cost the UK approximately £46.6 billion annually, with 2.7 million people taken to hospital every year.
