More people in the UK are keen to identify cost savings when it comes to making purchases, it has been asserted.

Research by Santander Current Accounts noted that four in five Britons are changing their lifestyle with regards to buying goods and services.

From coffees to car washes, it appears that many citizens are tightening their belts amid the uncertain economic backdrop.

Helen Bierton, head of Santander Current Accounts, said that "most of the British population are already taking measures to cut down on their daily expenditure".

In fact, the study noted that 55 per cent of people are shopping around in an attempt to vary their spending patterns.

According to the Consumer Credit Counselling Service, higher prices for fuel costs will make it harder for many people to pay off debts.

The assertion follows news that British Gas has announced a 98 per cent increase in its profits for the first half of 2010.ADNFCR-2353-ID-19913120-ADNFCR
