Agency workers register grievances over treatment
Many agency workers in the UK are not happy with the conditions under which they work, it has been discovered.
According to a survey conducted by the Trades Union Congress (TUC), 33 per cent of such people questioned reported that directly employed staff members were paid more than temps for performing the same roles.
In addition, nearly three in ten (28 per cent) claimed they had lost out on overtime and unsocial hours payments.
Also, 46 per cent said they received less holiday entitlement than their permanent counterparts.
Responding to the figures, general secretary of the TUC Brendan Barber suggested there is nothing fundamentally wrong with agency work.
However, he added: "What is wrong is when employers use agency staff to undermine pay and conditions and fill permanent jobs with staff who only have temporary rights."
Campaigning for fair working conditions and social justice, the TUC describes itself as the "voice of Britain at work".
