Appeals made for leniency in car parking tickets
Posted by Mark Cunningham
Those responsible for administering car parking tickets should be lenient on those who have been unable to return to move their vehicles due to the transport disruption seen recently.
UK airspace was closed for almost a week as a result of the ash cloud caused by the eruption of a volcano in Iceland, meaning many people were stranded abroad.
Indeed, due to the backlog of passengers, there are still travellers who have been unable to get back into the country.
The Trading Standards Institute (TSI) and the UK European Consumer Centre have appealed to car park operators to show good will towards people affected in this way.
TSI chief executive Ron Gainsford remarked: "These are highly exceptional circumstances and the last thing passengers will need after these stressful delays is more extra costs they hadn't anticipated or budgeted for."
He added that while the letter of the law may not be on the consumers' side, firms should be sympathetic due to the extraordinary nature of the situation.
