A driver who was handed a speeding ticket in error has received an apology.

Davina Hardiman was recently driving on the A358 in Somerset when a speed camera recorded her travelling at more than 100mph.

Ms Hardiman later contested the speeding ticket, on the grounds that the van she was driving is unable to exceed 60mph.

Somerset Safety Camera Partnership has agreed to revoke the ticket and has issued an apology.

However, Ms Hardiman said she cannot understand how such an error occurred in the first place.

"I've been told that speed cameras just aren't wrong," she told BBC News.

"They claim to always be right and it just shows you can't trust them."

Ms Hardiman said she was "bemused" at her speeding ticket, as she travels past the camera every day and did not remember it flashing.

She added that her experience suggests many other people may also have been incorrectly punished for driving offences.

This coincides with news that government spending cuts have prompted Somerset County Council to remove fixed speed cameras in the region from next month.
