Bad weather 'did not deter car buyers last month'

Inclement weather conditions and the rise in VAT implemented by the government failed to put off new car buyers last month.
This is the suggestion of a spokesman for manufacturers' organisation the EEF, who made his comments in the wake of figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
According to the organisation, new registrations rose by 29.8 per cent in January.
Over the course of the month, a total of 145,479 units were sold to road users in the UK, the statistics showed.
The representative stated that the EEF had anticipated a "bit of a lull" over the 31-day period and added that the unexpected increase was welcome.
He went on to state: "Over the last two years, we have seen a massive drop in car sales. Sooner or later there was bound to be a rebound, because people can only put off their purchases for so long."
