Banks 'must act to help small business owners in cold snap'
Posted by Daniel Stevens
Banks and building societies in the UK have been urged to help the owners of the nation's smaller businesses through the current cold snap.
According to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the adverse weather conditions enveloping much of the country at present is costing the British economy somewhere between £600 million and £1 billion every day, with smaller business owners being majorly affected.
Therefore, John Walker - national chairman of the FSB, which has 210,00 members - has called upon major financiers to work alongside the government in order to provide such organisations with the "breathing space" they need to "stay afloat" over the festive period.
He explained that "small businesses were banking on a good Christmas to make up for a bad year and the prospect of more bad news in 2011", but these plans have now been thrown into disarray by the icy conditions.
