Measures to reduce the burden of red tape on companies operating in the UK are needed sooner rather than later, the government has been advised.

In a letter sent to chancellor George Osborne, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has urged the administration to be more proactive in its attempts to boost the country's business sector and the wider economy following the recession.

According to the BCC, Mr Osborne needs to implement alterations in the near future as the nation faces an extended period of financial difficulty due to factors such as the ongoing eurozone debt crisis.

With this in mind, the group - which is led by director-general David Frost - has recommended several potential steps that could improve the situation, with "immediate and real action" on pledges to cut red tape chief among them.

"Business needs to see a clear and unequivocal list of major regulations that will be pared back or renegotiated," the BCC stated.ADNFCR-2353-ID-800739712-ADNFCR
