Bosses 'should cut workers some slack at Christmas'
Posted by Chris Stevenson
Bosses should consider cutting all members of their workforce some slack in the coming weeks as the festive season approaches.
That is the advice of Hilary Jeanes, leadership coach and human resources consultant at PurpleLine Consulting, who believes being a little more relaxed at this time of year can pay dividends for managers.
Ms Jeanes explained that simple techniques such as encouraging office lunches and secret Santa draws can help "communication and team-working", while permitting flexibility for working parents will also go down well.
However, the expert went on to indicate it is important not to forget those professionals who do not have children, as doing so could lead to an air of bitterness should they feel their colleagues are being treated better.
"Consider offering a few hours to get some Christmas shopping done to avoid any resentment," she stated.
This comes after Nora Smith of Employers for Childcare Charitable Group urged managers to be flexible when dealing with new parents.
