BRC: Retailers eager to employ younger people
Posted by Francesca Witney
The retail industry is focusing its recruitment efforts on the younger generation, new figures have suggested.
According to data published by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) recently (September 20th), in excess of four in every ten new employees hired by firms in this sector over the last 12 months have been between the ages of 16 and 21.
Throughout the global economic downturn, people under the age of 25 have been one of the groups suffering most in terms of a lack of available jobs, the BRC noted, meaning these figures should act as an encouragement to the next generation of workers.
Stephen Robertson, director-general of the body, observed: "We've produced clear and detailed evidence that retail is one of the sectors most likely to give young people the job breaks they need."
This comes after Kirsty Burgess of Reabur urged anyone looking for employment in the present economic climate to remain positive throughout their search.
