Calls made for increased property purchasing support
An organisation has called for increased support for potential property purchasers.
The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) has claimed that a number of measures are needed in order to help consumers get on to the property ladder.
In a new report, the organisation called for the abolition of Home Information Packs.
Such packs provide buyers with information on the property they are interested in and they must be provided by the seller or the seller's agent. Currently, they are a legal requirement.
Meanwhile, the AMI also called for the abolition of stamp land duty and the re-invention of mortgage indemnity guarantees.
Director of the organisation Robert Sinclair said: "Many consumers are unsure of both the options available to them and where to turn for true, independent advice. We believe the measures outlined in this paper will support consumers to become homeowners."
He added that the UK's mortgage market is currently in "unchartered territory".
