Car dealer penalised for selling under false pretences

A Bristol-based car dealer has been ordered by the city's Magistrates Court to pay £750 and costs of £1,250, as well as a £15 victim surcharge, after it was found he had sold vehicles to consumers under false pretences.
Trading as RDW Autos, Richard Williams, 52, failed to disclose accident damage in one case, let a Vauxhall Corsa with false mileage go and handed out an illegal receipt for another automobile, the Evening Post reports.
It emerged that the salesman would purchase models from a motor salvage website and later have them repaired and re-sprayed before selling them.
Principal trading standards officer for the local council Robin Whittle remarked: "We are absolutely determined to take robust enforcement action against motor traders who mislead the public."
This comes after Sainsbury's Finance Car Buying Index revealed that the number of people intending to purchase vehicles reached its highest rate for three years in August 2010.
