Car insurance 'becoming unaffordable for younger motorists'
Posted by Mark Cunningham
It is becoming more difficult for younger drivers to find suitable car insurance packages for their needs in the wake of the recession, an expert has said.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, believes that companies are now much more stringent in their regulations when it comes to providing cover to such road-users because they are perceived as too much of a risk.
Mr Douglas was speaking after the publication of research by Mazars, which suggested that premiums for these motorists will rise by 50 per cent in the near future.
However, the AA official explained that charges in "some inner city locations are already becoming unaffordable", as firms are wary the number of claims made by this group is growing steadily.
"As a consequence, fewer insurers are prepared to take on young drivers," he added.
Recently, Robert Gifford of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety welcomed the introduction of the government's new Continuous Enforcement Law.
