Car insurance for old models 'not always cheaper'

Ylr-news-800055774

Consumers might have noted one organisation's suggestion that car insurance for older models is not necessarily less expensive.

According to moneysupermarket.com, cover for a motor such as a 2010 Ford Fiesta would cost 20 per cent less than the 2000 edition when purchased by a 35-year-old male.

Steve Sweeney, head of car insurance at the group, explained that many people are mistaken in their belief that insurance deals for the latest vehicles are costlier.

"It's a common belief a new car will be more expensive to insure than an older model, but our research reveals there are some occasions where this is not the case," he said.

The organisation also warned against deals that require expensive renewals.

Elsewhere, consumers might want to get appropriate cover for a bicycle, in light of details of Aviva's Cycle Security poll.

It showed that one-third of cyclists in the UK have had at least one bike stolen in the last five years.
