Car parking ticket issued to mobility scooter owner
Posted by Mark Cunningham
The owner of a mobility scooter who was unable to reach a pay-and-display machine has been issued with a car parking ticket by NCP.
Raphael Piran, who has cerebral palsy, was at Cambridge Leisure Park to go to the cinema and, after the film, returned to see his three-wheel vehicle had been fined, Cambridge News reports.
He noted that, even if he had used the machine, his scooter is not enclosed in the same way a car is and, as such, he has nowhere to place a ticket, had he purchased one.
"It seems to me the car park bosses haven't taken into account that some disabled people may not be able to reach the machine," Mr Piran remarked.
After the situation was made clear to NCP, however, the ticket was cancelled and the company has offered to find a long-term solution.
This follows reports that visitors to UK hospitals will have to continue paying motoring fees for trust car parks.
