Children involved in speeding crackdown

Under the terms of a new initiative, children are to get involved in a project designed to reduce the number of speeding motorists on the roads.

Youngsters in Norwich are teaming up with Lakenham and Tuckswood Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) to carry out speed checks, the Norwich Evening News reports.

Drivers caught travelling over the 30mph limit will be stopped and handed a speeding ticket or a warning by pupils from Tuckswood Primary School - which has around 180 kids on its register.

Police officer Rachel Cooke said: "Complaints about vehicles speeding are frequently reported to the SNT and those who persistently offend will become targets for police enforcement action."

High-visibility speed checks will hopefully make road users think twice about going too fast, she added.

The project is not the first of its kind in the area, with a similar scheme last month resulting in 16 motorists being stopped.
