CIPD: 65% of employers to increase pay in 2011
Posted by Mark Cunningham
The majority of companies in the UK will increase their base pay awards at some point in 2011, new research has shown.
According to a study conducted by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), some 65 per cent of all employers have already, or are planning to, hike the wages of their staff in the near future.
In addition, the body's annual Reward Survey, which was produced in conjunction with Benefex and involved questioning 280 respondents, established that 99 per cent of firms have no plans to implement pay cuts this year, while 26 per cent have opted to freeze salaries.
Charles Cotton, performance and reward adviser at the CIPD, observed: "We expect that there will not be much change to the proportion of organisations making a pay award in 2012."
Recently, Ruth Spellman of the Chartered Management Institute stated that it is "very clear" that bosses are eager for their employees to be continually updating their personal skills.
