Cold weather motoring advice provided

As the cold weather closes in, consumers have been given some motoring advice to ensure they are not caught out when Jack Frost pays a visit.
Insurance provider More Than recommended regularly turning the engine over on cars not used too often to ensure the battery remains energised, while antifreeze levels should be checked and de-icer kept in the car to thaw any frozen locks.
Furthermore, when warming vehicles up before work, do not leave them unattended with the engine running as many are stolen in this way each year by opportunistic thieves.
And in case of a break down, keeping a blanket or warm coat in the automobile was suggested, as well as emergency supplies like hot drinks or chocolate.
"Everyone affected by the extreme weather circumstances should keep a close watch for further weather warnings and heed the advice of the emergency services," the company observed.
Such advice could prove particularly useful as the Met Office has just said snow showers in parts of Scotland and northern England should be expected, spreading to other parts of the UK throughout the rest of the week.
