Compensation For Sofa Rashes And Burns
The latest legal step in the sofa burns case took place at the Royal Courts of Justice in London this week. It involves about 200 people who have had allergic skin reactions and burns from sofas bought from Argos, Land of Leather and Walmsley’s Furnishing, as well as other shops. The rashes and burns were caused by an anti-mould agent called Dimethyl Fumarate (DMF) used to treat the sofas.
The Court ruled that there needed to be further investigation into the medical evidence and claimants needed more clarity about the sofa models and batch numbers that are affected. There will also be a month of high profile adverts from the end of September to raise awareness of the possible link between skin rashes and the sofas in question. The next hearing in the case will take place in December.
Richard Langton, the lawyer from Russell Jones & Walker solicitors who is leading the case, said he hoped consumers would get compensation for their injuries as soon as possible. He urged others who may have been affected to join the case immediately so they could also benefit.
If you think you have been injured by DMF you should ask your doctor to give you a patch sensitivity test. If you have an affected sofa, you can get legal advice from Russell Jones and Walker on enquiries@rjw.co.uk or call 0800 884 0324.
