Complaint made of dishonesty in conveyancing process

Ylr-news-19160296

A house buyer has complained over dishonesty displayed during the conveyancing process by the vendor of the property she purchased.

Sophie Duffy alleges that when she bought a home from Janet Musgrave, she did so without knowing an important fact that had been deliberately concealed from her, the Daily Mail reports.

The Vendor had signed a Sellers Property Information Form (SPIF) stating that she did not know of any disputes with neighbours.

This was despite the fact that she later admitted that her next-door neighbour had had altercations with her, even threatening to kill her.

Commenting on the form, Ms Duffy said it was "not worth the paper it is written on".

She added: "If you can't be held liable for refusing to admit that your neighbour is a nightmare, the form is clearly not fit for purpose."

Sellers are required to complete a SPIF before they exchange contracts with the individual who is buying their home.
