The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has announced details of the consumer prices index (CPI) for June 2010.

It found that CPI inflation was 3.2 per cent during the month, which compares with 3.4 per cent in May.

The decrease was attributed to falling petrol and diesel prices, while clothing and footwear saw record June price falls.

In addition, ONS reported that rises in air fares and insurance premiums were the main upward pressures to inflation.

The findings are broadly in line with previous years, as the group stated that the monthly movement between May and June has varied between a drop of 0.2 per cent and a rise of 0.7 per cent since 1996.

News of the consumer price assessment comes after the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) suggested that the gap between the minimum wage and typical living costs have widened.

In particular, JRF noted that inflation rates for people on low incomes will be higher than previously claimed in the Budget.ADNFCR-2353-ID-19887407-ADNFCR
