It would appear that consumers are growing tired of the financial industry, with a new report revealing that approximately 1.3 million complaints have been received by banks in the last six months.

According to the Financial Services Authority (FSA), this equates to 7,143 enquiries daily, with bones of contention including poor service and bad advice.

What's more, it was also found that Santander closed fewer than half of the queries within eight weeks - the recommended timescale.

The worst offenders seem to be Lloyds with almost 290,000 grievances, Barclays with 250,667, Santander with 244,978, state-controlled Royal Bank of Scotland - which includes Natwest - with nearly 140,000 and HSBC with 81,271.

"It is clear that not enough is being done by senior management to prioritise complaints handling," said Sheila Nicoll, director of conduct policy with the FSA.

These figures follow a This is Money report indicating that banks are legally raiding consumer accounts in order to settle other debts - a practice that, according to Citizens Advice, is increasing, with an 80 per cent rise being seen in the past year.ADNFCR-2353-ID-800091194-ADNFCR
