UK consumers could well feel the pinch even more this yuletide season, as a comparison site has revealed that British Gas intends to put its prices for electricity and gas up from December 10th.

According to uSwitch.com, tariffs will be increased by seven per cent, a move that will affect eight million people in the country and may come as a bitter blow as the second-largest supplier, SSE, has also announced it will drive gas prices up by 9.4 per cent from December 1st.

Director of consumer policy with uSwitch.com Ann Robinson said that Britons will now be facing "an extremely bleak winter", urging consumers to act now to reduce the effects of these developments.

"Use less energy by making your home more energy efficient and move to a competitive energy plan so that you pay less for the energy you do use," she recommended.

Similarly, Adam Scorer, director of external affairs with campaigning body Consumer Focus, said people are sure to be "dismayed" by this British Gas news.ADNFCR-2353-ID-800232785-ADNFCR
