Consumers 'must play a part in combating credit fraud'
Posted by Mark Cunningham
Consumers must play their role in helping banks and building societies crackdown on credit card fraud, an expert has said.
According to Mark Bowerman, spokesman for Financial Fraud Action UK, card owners themselves need to take several security precautions when they use their plastic, as fraudulent activity remains "an issue" in Britain.
Mr Bowerman explained that the problem is decreasing due to the fact that "everyone is doing their bit" and added that schemes put in place by financiers across the country to combat it are "obviously having an effect".
Nevertheless, he reminded individuals that they are "their own frontline of defence", meaning that taking extra care with important personal details is essential.
These comments came after the publication of data by ACI Worldwide earlier this week (March 7th 2011), which revealed that 50 per cent of consumers recognise card crime as the biggest threat to them in terms of fraud.
