Consumers 'still awaiting ash cloud compensation'

Britons are still waiting for compensation payouts from airlines following this year's volcanic ash saga in Iceland, with an investigation revealing that airlines are capping amounts illegally.

According to Money Mail, companies are refusing to respond to emails and forcing consumers to use expensive phone lines, while some people will not receive any money until February next year at the earliest.

What's more, some are finding they must enlist the services of translators to deal with foreign compensation schemes, while other passengers are being given a fraction of what they actually lost.

James Freemantle, industry affairs manager with the Air Transport Users Council, said: "They cannot limit claims and we have seen that happening. We are in constant discussions with the airlines about their responsibilities."

Meanwhile, an English teacher was recently awarded £150,000 in compensation after being forced to quit her job when nodules appeared on her vocal chords as a result of raising her voice to be heard above the noise of a nearby children's play area.ADNFCR-2353-ID-800257956-ADNFCR
