Consumers urged to make wills before emigrating
People who intend to emigrate should make sure they have a will in place.
This is according to Shelter Offshore, which pointed out that drawing up such a document ensures that people are not left intestate.
The organisation stated that making wills ensures that if anything happens to a person, their family and loved ones will know how to handle their estates according to the deceased's wishes.
Shelter Offshore commented: "Get a will written, that way you avoid the potentially disastrous situations that your loved ones could face if you, as an expat, fail to have a will in place that is correctly written, structured and witnessed so that it is 100 per cent legal and valid back home and in the new nation you're residing in."
Recently, the Post Office released the findings of a study which revealed that 73 per cent of people polled would prioritise an emotional asset over a financial legacy in a will.
