Could consumers be affected by food inflation?

Ylr-news-800057460

It could be said that consumers will be affected by food inflation trends.

According to the British Retail Consortium, the spike in shop prices was 0.2 per cent between July and August 2010.

Food inflation reached 3.8 per cent in August, compared with 2.5 per cent in July.

This represents the highest rate for a year and Stephen Robertson, director general at the organisation, said that despite the increases, "we're nowhere near the return of the double-digit food inflation of two years ago".

He added that retailers have responded to the trend by offering more deals for items such as milk and bread.

Meanwhile, Mike Watkins, senior manager of Nielsen's retail services division, stated that this autumn, many consumers "will review household budgets again".

Elsewhere, it might not have escaped people's attention that moneysupermarket.com recently carried out research which showed that car insurance for older models is not necessarily less expensive.
