Couples considering getting a divorce should avoid rushing the decision, it has been claimed.

According to legal expert Hazel Roberts, people in the UK are living in a 24-hour society in which an "I want it now" attitude has taken hold, the Liverpool Daily Post reports.

She said that Christmas time can be a particularly tumultuous time for couples.

Ms Roberts advised people to wait until the holiday period is over and things have returned to normality before taking action.

She added: "It is a worrying new trend that so many couples have hit the panic button before the turkey leftovers have even been eaten."

Recently, Matt Buttery, chief executive of the Family Matters Institute, also suggested that the festive period can place additional pressure on couples and therefore causes a rise in requests for divorce.

He pointed out that there are "some great services" available to help people in this situation.
