Crime in rural areas increasing, study indicates

Ylr-news-19909652

People living in remote parts of the UK will increasingly be looking to take out insurance, if new research is anything to go by.

Figures from NFU Mutual suggested that 70 per cent of the group's agents believe offences went up between January and June this year.

Among the items that are being taken from many rural sites include quad bikes, Land Rovers and power tools, the report suggested.

The study also showed that 71 per cent of branches polled believe rural crime is planned, while 17 per cent consider it to be opportunistic.

Responding to the news, John Kenny, chief claims manager at NFU Mutual, said that the organisation "deals with thousands of rural theft claims every year".

He added: "It's disappointing to see rural crime is on the increase and that rural homes and businesses, in particular farms, have become rich pickings for thieves."

In other insurance news, the Motor Insurers' Bureau recently found that Barkerend in Bradford is top of the charts for the thirteenth year in a row for unauthorised car ownership.ADNFCR-2353-ID-19909652-ADNFCR
