Default retirement age 'is a waste of talent and resources'

The UK's default retirement age is wasteful in terms of both talent and resources, pensions expert Dr Ros Altmann has claimed.
Her comments follow remarks made by deputy leader of the Labour Party Harriet Harman, who suggested that a "massive policy change" is due to take place concerning retirement laws.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, she suggested that current laws - under which workers can be forced to leave their roles without redundancy pay at the age of 65 even if they do not want to - need to be changed.
Dr Altmann supported the proposals, saying: "We are wasting so much of our precious national resource by forcing people to retire before they might be ready."
The expert went on to say that pension funds may not be enough to support people in their later years and so other sources of finances will have to be considered.
