Demand for rental properties 'to remain strong in 2011'
Posted by Mark Cunningham
Landlords look set to enjoy a prosperous year in 2011 due to ongoing uncertainty over the availability of mortgage finance, a specialist has suggested.
David Lawrenson, private rented sector expert at LettingFocus.com, has said that demand for rented property from people looking for a new home is likely to remain strong over the next 12 months as bleak job prospects put consumers off purchasing.
Mr Lawrenson noted that many will see renting as a "safer option" in the current economic climate following the recession - which could be good news for landlords across the UK.
He explained that people fear the possibility of losing their job and then being unable to pay their mortgage back.
"We will continue to see more people continuing to rent for longer than they might otherwise have done," Mr Lawrenson added.
This comes after Upad published figures showing that 63 per cent of landlords claim to be more confident about the marketplace in January 2011 than they were in the previous months.
