Disabled motorist gets parking ticket cancelled

A parking ticket issued to a disabled motorist while he was shopping in a supermarket has been revoked.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Jim Meehan was handed a £40 penalty while he was parked at a branch of Asda in the Wythenshawe area of Manchester on the grounds that he had spent too long in the store.
The 61-year-old has been registered as disabled since 1994 due to health problems such as mobility and respiratory issues but was given the ticket for exceeding the two-hour free parking limit at the store, the news source stated.
Mr Meehan's fine was subsequently boosted to £70 after he refused to pay it, but this has since been cancelled following a campaign on his behalf.
He labelled the parking system "objectionable" and "ridiculous" and added: "As someone with mobility problems, it takes me a lot of time to get around."
This comes after Get Hampshire reported that a tribunal case had ended with a man having a parking ticket repealed in Fleet.
