Divorcing couples 'increasingly turning to collaborative approach'
Couples seeking divorces in the UK are increasingly turning to the so-called 'collaborative' approach.
This is according to Lord Kerr of Tonaghmore, who said there has been a rise in take-up of the method, the Times reports.
The approach sees divorces settled out of court in a less adversarial way than conventional legal separations and the essence of the approach is not victory by one side over another.
Lord Kerr is a justice in the UK's new Supreme Court, which was established to provide greater clarity in the country's constitutional arrangements.
He claims that the most impressive thing about collaborative divorces is their settlement rate, which currently stands at 85 per cent.
The expert commented: "The fundamental purpose is to shape a solution to the problems experienced by the parties that not only resolves the immediate dispute, but which will endure to sustain a relationship after the parties have left the stage."
