A parking ticket worth £40 issued to a driver on the basis she had not paid ten pence has been overturned following an appeal.

According to the Maidenhead Advertiser, Theresa Farrell did not know that the price of parking at The Avenue in Maidenhead had gone up from £4.50 to £4.60 due to the fact that there was no "obvious signs indicating the increase".

Therefore, Ms Farrell paid the previous rate, only to find that she had received a penalty of £40 upon returning to her vehicle last April.

However, following a process including three appeals which she described as "extremely time consuming and stressful", the motorist's fine has now been revoked.

"I felt like it was some form of entrapment as had I been aware that the tariff had been increased I would have happily paid the extra ten pence," she told the news source.

This comes after the Lancashire Evening Telegraph reported recently that a driver in Chorley had been fined £25 after his parking ticket was blown upside down by the wind.
