Drivers 'lie to get cheaper car insurance'

Many drivers may be lying about their personal situation in order to reduce the cost of their car insurance.

That is according to Andrew Hagger, spokesman for online resource Moneynet, who has stated that, in the wake of the global economic downturn, the primary focus for consumers when it comes to such products is the price, not the quality, of the policy.

Mr Hagger noted the eagerness of many people to enjoy lower outgoings on their vehicle insurance is leading them "to not be 100 per cent truthful" when they make an application for cover.

He went on to say that the most common aspect of a document people tend to be untruthful about is where their car will be parked, as this can have a significant effect on fees attached to insurance.

Research published by Confused.com last week showed that 14 per cent of all Britons admitted to lying about their details in order to get cheaper cover.
