The majority of motorists are more likely to take risks while driving a company car compared to when they are behind the wheel of their own vehicle, new research has shown.

A study published today (November 23rd) by uSwitch.com revealed that 67 per cent of individuals admitted this is the case in terms of their behaviour when on the road.

Furthermore, 62 per cent indicated they would be more likely to jump a red light, while a huge number - 83 per cent - thought they would commit a criminal offence by speaking on the phone while operating a company car rather than their own.

Michael Ossei, personal finance expert at uSwitch.com, said it is "unfortunate" that so many people are abusing the perk of being loaned a vehicle by their employer.

"A company car doesn't give you carte blanche for risky driving," he added.

This comes after Martin Paling of Hastings Direct urged all motorists to make sure they have effective insurance in place ahead of the winter. ADNFCR-2353-ID-801219001-ADNFCR
