Drivers 'should learn even after passing test'

Motorists should not stop learning new skills just because they have passed their driving test, an expert has said.

According to a spokeswoman from the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), it is important for all road users to have an attitude centred on continuing to get better behind the wheel even once they are legally allowed to operate a car.

The IAM official stated that "all drivers start as new drivers", meaning that younger people without huge amounts of experience in a vehicle should strive to "develop safely" by learning throughout their motoring careers.

She went on to say there should be a change in culture among motorists in terms of them receiving "greater encouragement" to engage in further work once they have passed their test.

Indeed, this would help lower their insurance premiums in the long term, the spokeswoman added.

Recently, research by the Co-operative Insurance showed that it costs females around 40 per cent more to learn to drive than their male counterparts.ADNFCR-2353-ID-800770292-ADNFCR
