Guesthouses which cater only for homosexual couples are to be scrutinised by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

The organisation will look at whether these establishments discriminate against heterosexual people and whether this constitutes a breach of the law.

According to the EHRC, a number of issues regarding Christian bed and breakfast establishments that turn away gay couples have been brought to its attention in the last few months.

Speaking to the Telegraph, a spokesman said it is therefore "testing the law in this area", as there is a need to "establish an objective balance".

This comes shortly after it was confirmed that homosexual couple Michael Black and John Morgan are suing Swiss B&B in Berkshire.

The two men are taking legal action after the owner of the guesthouse refused them a double room on the grounds that allowing them to share a bed would go against her religious beliefs.
