Employers advised to consider internal team-building exercises
Posted by Mark Cunningham
Companies may be able to enhance the working environment of their members of staff by running team-building activities in the office.
That is according to Penny Tamkin, associate director for the Institute of Employment Studies (IES), who has spoken about the ways in which such exercises can benefit a firm by improving the morale and working relationships of employees.
Ms Tamkin noted that while bonding initiatives are traditionally held outside of work, they can also be effectively implemented within the boundaries of workers' roles.
For instance, the official from the IES - which was established in 1969 and offers independent advice to employers - cited the example of some organisations using projects within their offices "where loads of people will be working together on something that's really difficult, really new and different to their day job".
However, she concluded that exercises do not have to be "something that is totally unrelated to work".
