Employers 'neglecting staff wellbeing during recession'
Posted by Emily Jones
Businesses have been advised to make the physical and mental wellbeing of staff a priority as the UK emerges from recession.
A survey by Simplyhealth revealed that half agree they have been too focused on surviving to worry about welfare, while half of employees believe their health has been ignored.
The situation could prompt people to look for work elsewhere - with 45 per cent of people stating they are likely to do so as the market recovers - despite three-quarters of firms believing their staff will stay put.
Simplyhealth spokesperson Jamie Wilson commented: "Employers can show that they are bothered about their staff in a variety of ways, including making efforts to ensure regular communication [and] providing benefits such as healthcare."
The company, which says its roots lie in the voluntary hospitals established for communities that could not afford healthcare in the 19th century, suggested that businesses will struggle if they do not take the right approach to wellbeing.
