Managers should be somewhat cautious when implementing social media into their businesses' marketing plans, an expert has said.

According to Tim Gibbon, director at Elemental, attitudes among decision makers at companies with regard to how they go about using websites such as Twitter and Facebook have changed dramatically in recent times.

Mr Gibbon explained that, at first, there was plenty of "scepticism" from bosses who thought such platforms may be little more than a "passing fad" and therefore decided against incorporating them into their strategies.

However, this has altered hugely since brand confidence in this area grew thanks to factors such as higher visitor traffic and subscribers but the Elemental official believes managers must not treat social media as a foolproof method of marketing.

"They could be making errors that have plagued digital channels in the past," he added.

Recently, Kevin Green of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation warned firms to anticipate a skills gap in the next year or so. ADNFCR-2353-ID-800733183-ADNFCR
