Employers urged to offer workers more financial help

Employers can help their members of staff struggling with personal finance problems by offering them greater levels of assistance.

That is according to Charles Cotton, performance and reward adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), who has said that many workers are set to feel the pinch in the coming months due to factors such as increasing food and fuel prices.

As a result, Mr Cotton called on managers to do more in order to aid any employees who are suffering with the stresses and strains of money-related issues.

For example, he noted that firms could "put in an employees assistance programme", which are run by third-party organisations that offer advice and tips on a wide range of problems.

This comes after the Consumer Credit Counselling Service revealed earlier this week (March 28th 2011) that almost half the people they counselled during 2010 cited reduced income or unemployment as the cause of their debt.
