Employment conditions for disabled people 'must be improved'

Ylr-news-19359626

Employment conditions for disabled people must be improved, it has been suggested.

According to Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), it is important for the wellbeing of the economy to create working environments in which such people can operate effectively.

He made his comments in the opening address of the British Association for Supported Employment's two-day annual conference.

The NWDA is supporting the association in working with employers across the region to enhance their understanding of the needs of disabled members of staff.

Mr Broomhead stated: "The north-west has an international reputation for attracting investments and skilled people, however, despite all this success we know that many of the people within the region still need support in getting on to the employment ladder."

The NWDA exists to maximise the competitiveness of industry in the north-west and to build a stronger economy by supporting the region's businesses and assisting new start-ups.
